Charity highlight

I'm in the very fortunate position of having a relatively large platform, one with very creative people and people who have been very kind and generous to me. For the longest time I've been looking for a way to utilize this as a power for good. My partnership with Eden was one such step, but it's a very specific one and one that relies entirely on monetary donations. I hope to change this with monthly charity highlights. These are intended to highlight very specific ways you can make a difference in someone's live through often small acts of kindness. I will do my best to make sure these highlights are as accessible as possible to everyone, which includes trying to make sure no monetary donations are needed. The first highlight, for example, is one on making and sending your own greeting cards to specific charities who then distribute them to people who are suffering in one way or another. These cards usually help cheer up people.

Before you head of to the list of charities below, I'd like to get 2 more things out of the way. They're a little on the gloomy side, but I still feel it's my responsibility to ensure these points are clear.

Due diligence

I try to make sure each charity I list is not only legit, but also beneficial to the cause they say they're fighting for. This isn't always straight forward, but by focusing on charitable acts that require no monetary donations, I hope to automatically fish out the vast majority of false ones straight away.
Having said that, I am just one person and, more importantly, I'm a stranger on the internet. This should automatically make you take my words with a grain of salt. While the vast majority of charities I list won't cause you to risk anything other than some lost time, I sadly feel the need to tell you (especially the younger ones among you) to make sure you know what charity you're supporting by doing your own due diligence as well. At the very least just as a habit to make sure you do this in the future with others as well.

Your impact - Keeping things local

Giving to charities is great, but keep in mind what impact you're making outside of your actual donation. I'm sadly only able to list charities in a select few countries/languages depending on the availability of appropriate charities in each monthly theme. This can sometimes mean the only listed charities are across the world of where you may be located. In the vast majority of cases, there are more local charities who could use that very same donation. It could be a local hospital, a local library or a local charity shop. Either way, focusing on more local charities will help ensure no resources are wasted, both in terms of potential shipping costs for you as well as the environmental costs of shipping something across the world or the environmental costs of using certain materials.

With that out of the way, here are the charity highlights thus far. Sadly at the moment there's only 2 as I've set this up in July 2021. There will be more in the future though.
Hopefully we can make the world a slightly better place together. Either way, thank you for reading this and being willing to see if there is a way you can help, and have a wonderful day.
Love,
- Emily
