This name generator will give you 10 random Tibetan names and in half the cases surnames as well.
Tibet is the highest region on Earth and lies on the Tibetan Plateau. It's mostly home to the Tibetan people, but it's home to several other ethnic groups as well. They make up a total population of roughly 3 million.
The Tibetans are primarily Buddhist, Tibetan Buddhist to be more precise. This plays a huge role in their daily lives, including the way they name their children.
Most Tibetans will get their child's name from a local Buddhist priest, unfortunately, due to the way China took control of Tibet, a lot of this tradition has been disrupted. Nowadays the Daila Lama is often the sole spiritual leader for many Tibetans, and as a result many will use the name Tenzin or Tsering for their children as this is the first name of the Daila Lama. Tenzin means 'keeper of the revealed', it can be both a first and last name, and it's a unisex name.
Most Tibetan names are unisex, and I haven't been able to find too much on names that are definitely either male or female, so all names are considered unisex in this name generator.
Tibetans traditionally do not have surnames the way most other countries do, but their 'first' names are often comprised of 2 parts, which could be considered as 2 names. However, some do have surnames more similar to other cultures. These people are often part of nobility or descendant of nobility. These names can often be fairly easy to spot as they end in either '-tsang', meaning 'house of' or in '-pa/-wa', meaning 'of'.
Others may simply have a regional name that denotes from which region they are. A fairly common name is Nepali for example, but this name is often taken for political reasons as well.
Since not all Tibetans have a 'surname' I've only given the last 5 names in this generator, but mostly just for stylistic choices as leaving out a surname yourself is easy as pie.
