Kerch is an island nation within the True Sea, ruled by the Merchant Council and known for its incredible wealth as well as its ruthless businessmen. It is considered the financial capital of the world in part due to its wealth and due to being a hub for international trade, which is strengthened by being neutral in world affairs as well as its strong navy. Having other nations, like Ravka, in their debt also helps with their political maneuvering, of course.
Kerch is influenced by the 18th century Dutch Republic, but there are other influences as well. Names tend to be either Dutch or English, but some other European influences pop in here and there as well.
