Galician name generator
This name generator will give you 10 random Galician names and surnames.
Galicia is an autonomous community in the North-West of Spain. It has a population of roughly 3 million people. Their official languages are Galician and Spanish, but Galician is closer to Portuguese than it is to Spanish thanks to a medieval period when the county of Portugal was still part of the Kingdom of Galicia. After the Portuguese independence in 1128, both languages developed independently.
Besides Spanish and Portuguese influences, Galician names also have Germanic influences thanks to the Suebi and Visigoths in the 5th and 6th centuries, though many of these influences only live on through surnames today.
The differences between Spanish and Galician, or Portuguese and Galician names can be subtle at times, sometimes there's no difference at all, as some names are shared. But those that are different are generally easy to spot to those who speak any one of these languages.
