Merfolk are humanoid beings with fish-like lower bodies instead of legs. They're found across the globe in any part of any ocean hospitable to them. But despite considering themselves rulers of the ocean, there are different communities that can range from kingdoms to small communities in the deepest depths of the ocean where few merfolk tend to go. The local wildlife is often reflected in a merfolk's appearance. Their tail might resemble that of a shark or dolphin, or have bio-luminescence like deep water creatures.
Merfolk tend to be quite adept at using magic, and their leaders tend to be among the most powerful magic users among them. Of course, merfolk are as diverse as the oceans themselves, so this is hardly a strict rule of thumb.
Merfolk names tend to follow the sounds of aquatic creatures, most commonly the songs of whales and clicks of dolphins. Official examples are: Aloori, Iri'kik, Ouliette, T'konaa, and Uathanak. You'll find plenty of names in this type of style below.
